      Internal models are a key concept in motor control, helping explain a myriad of adaptive behavior including reaching, walking, and saccadic eye movements. They come in two flavors: inverse and forward models. Inverse models (also known as controllers) take as input a desired trajectory and output the corresponding motor commands. or,likeallotheraspects of a species’ natural history, is subject to natural selection. Since the ultimate test of a behavioral repertoire is repro-ductive success, it is perhaps appropriate to focus on mat-ing systems in addressing the neural control of social behav-ior. The following three chapters apply neural networks to such topics as learning and development, classical instrumental condition, and the role of genes in building brain networks. The book concludes by comparing neural networks to other approaches. It will appeal to students of animal behavior .   This book is motivated by a realization that cortical structure and behavior can be explained by a synergy of seemingly different mathematical notions: global attractors, which define non-invertible neural firing rate dynamics, random graphs, which define connectivity of neural circuit, and prime numbers, which define the dimension and category.
